Ever feel like you're creating content just to create content?
Like you know you're supposed to do it, so you're going through the motions... but you don't feel like you're actually doing it right?
The biggest mindset shift I've had when it comes to content creation is making sure it has a purpose. Every piece of content you create - blog, email, social media post - should have a purpose.
And if the purpose of your content is to be genuinely helpful to your audience? To connect with them, nurture your relationship with them, and show them who you are? Then you're on the right track.
That’s the topic of today’s newsletter - creating high-quality content that stands out. So let's get to it and make your marketing SHINE.
Spotlight on...
High-quality content.
Sometimes I'm scrolling and I feel like I'm taking a beating - I'm getting hit left, right, and sideways with content.
Other times, I'm mindlessly scrolling and just.... bored.
There is an absolutely endless amount of content out there. And it might even make you feel like you've got nothing to contribute.
But the truth is, high-quality content (not to be confused with plain old boring just-like-everybody-else content) is needed now more than ever.
It's up to you to create content that stops the scroll, that delights your audience and makes them feel all the good vibes.
How to...
Create high-quality content.
There could be an entire course on creating high-quality content (and I'm sure there are a million of them), but this is a short email, so I'm here with 3 tips.
- Help your readers achieve their goals. Maybe their goal is deciding where to escape on their next trip. Maybe it’s making a decision about the next steps in their business. Maybe it’s understanding the problem they have and how to find the solution (your solution). Maybe it’s finding something to make their life better, to inspire them, or to lessen their stress. Make sure your content is helping them get there.
- Write something new. Yes, it has to be well-written and nicely designed, but it also has to be different from all the other content garbage that’s out there. Provide a fresh perspective on something they’ve seen before, and it’ll suddenly be more valuable.
- Focus on your reader. Respect their time by writing something that’s clear and concise. Don’t beat around the bush. If you can say it in less words, do. Take the time to understand them – then empathize with their situation, show you care, and meet them where they’re at.
It’s not just what you write – but how you write. With purpose, with a fresh perspective, and with empathy.

Not everything is about business...
I'm going to be honest. I love sitting outside on a beautiful day like today. But I can't deal with the bugs.
I mean, as I write this, an ant is crawling on my computer screen and a wasp is hovering in behind it. I'm flicking away bugs left and right. And if there are mosquitos out? I can't even explain to you... I am that person who gets eaten alive when no one else even has a bite.
It is my life's dream to have a screened-in porch.
But until I write enough copy to pay for it, do you have any magical suggestions for how I can enjoy my backyard more? Hit reply - I'd love to hear 'em.

Okay, this one is for the little ones. If there are kiddos in your life and you haven't checked out Story Bots (on Netflix), it's time. This show is so fun for littles and grownups - it's funny and chock-full of celebrity guests. But the best part is that they do a great job of explaining how things work, question-and-answer style, and getting kids interested in the world around them. My kids' favorite episode by far: What Happens When You Flush the Toilet? Seriously. So good. 😂
That's it for me this week. Catch you next time!
Rooting for you!
